History
Long a part of Somersworth, Rollinsford was the site of a 1680 landing
on the Salmon River. During the early 1820s, Construction of the textile
mills at the larger waterfalls led to the development of the villages
of Salmon Falls and Great Falls. A shift in the center of the population
from Salmon Falls to Great Falls led to the town being incorporated in
1849. Given the name Rollinsford in honor of newlyweds Edward H. and Ellen
West Rollins.
