History
South Berwick, another town on the Salmon Falls River took up dairy farming
when a shipment of cows arrived in 1634. One of the oldest schools in
the country; Berwick Academy and its historical Campus are located in
downtown South Berwick. Organized as an independent school for boys in
1791, is now a Private co-educational day school. The state of Maine has
recently purchased over 2,000 acres of land in South Berwick and York
to preserve the wildlife and natural beauty around Mt. Agamenticus.
